Problems in Securing Energy Infrastructure 

Vulnerability in Substations: 

1. People could easily shoot the substation

2. People could easily climb the chain link fence and vandalize

Transmission lines short circuit:

1. Transmission lines can freeze which leads to power going out to hundreds of people at a time.

People can Hack their Way Through the Energy System:

1. Cyber Security - Companies can connect their substation through the Internet so they don’t have to monitor the cameras in person, they can just monitor them from home which leads to the substations being able to be hacked. As soon as the substation gets connected to the internet, it becomes highly vulnerable to cyber-attacks.

Insecure pipelines:

1.  During winter months, pipelines that are exposed to cold weather can freeze.

2. Another thing that could happen is that pipelines could be left outside or in places that are easily accessible someone could just go and shoot or use something else to break or damage it.
