Why Protect Substations Anyway?
We are focusing on substations because power plants are protected well, and many energy substations and power lines are not protected enough. Substations are more vulnerable, and if a substation gets attacked then a couple thousand homes can lose power!
On December 3, 2022, a shooting attack was carried out on two electrical distribution substations located in Moore County, North Carolina which lost power to so many people for days! In North Carolina, damage from the attack left up to 40,000 residential and business customers without electrical power. npr.org says “The attack caused "millions of dollars" of damage to the substations” What if that happens in your community?
Although security cameras help, they can't altogether prevent the attacker from attacking. That is why we have 2 solutions.
